Job Summary:
In collaboration with the Director of Wine and Viticulture Technology, the Viticulturist provides vineyard and grapevine expertise and leadership while working collaboratively with faculty, staff, industry representatives, and others to achieve the goals and objectives of the unit. The Viticulturist instructs for credit Viticulture courses, and develops and offers continuing education classes, workshops, and seminars related to vineyard operations and management. In collaboration with Wine and Viticulture students and with staff at the Southwest Michigan Research and Extension Center, the Viticulturist manages and maintains vineyard blocks used for instruction and work-based learning opportunities
Essential Functions:
1. Develops curriculum and teaches for credit Viticulture courses for the Wine and Viticulture Technology Program.2. Assists in recruitment, advising, and mentoring of current and prospective Wine and Viticulture students.3. Develops and oversees viticulture internships and cooperative education opportunities for students.4. Develops an extended education program in Viticulture and related subjects to meet the needs of the local and regional wine industry.5. Actively participates in local, regional, and national organizations relevant to viticulture, agriculture, and wine production.6. In collaboration with the Director of Wine and Viticulture, works to further develop Program learning outcomes and strategies of assessment.7. In collaboration with the Director, assures adequate vineyard resources to meet Program objectives.8. In collaboration with the Director and local commercial growers, assures supply of high-quality grapes to produce wine by the Programs affiliated winery, Lake Michigan Vintners.9. Assists faculty and administration in conducting regular program review activities.10. Serves on College and community committees as needed and as assigned.

1. Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Enology and Viticulture.
Accountabilities:
Under the general supervision of the Director of Wine and Viticulture Technology program, the Viticulturist is accountable for the Viticulture unit of Wine and Viticulture Technology program.
Job Specifications:
Bachelors degree in a related field from an accredited institution required. Direct industry experience may substitute for education at the discretion of the College. Three or more years experience in commercial vineyard management required. Solid understanding of Eastern US viticulture strongly preferred. Experience teaching at the college level preferred. Background in sustainable farming systems and regenerative ag practices preferred.
